Thet's great that you're helping others accomodate in your city, especially foreigners. If you move your whole life abroad far from friends and family you need some help and nice people to talk to

Tuesday, the 15th of November 2011, Science Café Leiden and Expat Centre Leiden are organizing a special event about how the Netherlands is seen in the eyes of foreigners. Always wanted to know what foreigners think of us Dutchies? In this first international Science Café, we would like to address the impression we leave on expats in the Leiden region.

Dr. Enrico Colzi will be telling about his experiences in the Netherlands. Enrico Colzi is from Italy, received his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands and currently works for Vega Group PLC as senior RF payload engineer in the RF Payload System Division of ESA/ESTEC.  “My name is Enrico Colzi. I was born 45 years ago in a small town on the north-western coast of Italy. I received  the master degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of and the PhD on Telecom Engineering from TU Delft. I worked for the European Space Agency, for a small satcom enterprise, the Italian Space Agency and Vega in Space, a consultancy company. Since June  2010 I work as a patent examiner for the European Patent Office in Rijswijk. I have been living in the Netherlands since end 2006 with my family, also from Italy. In the past I was also living and working in the Netherlands (1992-2000), totalising almost 15 years of immersion in the Dutch culture and society."

The evening will introduced and moderated by Prof. Jos van den Broek, science and communication Universiteit Leiden.

In a Science Café one or more speakers talk about their work or experiences. With live music and drinks, there is plenty of room for discussion. For more information see www.sciencecafeleiden.nl (in Dutch).

Music: by Jasper Mook. Jasper Mook is a 21 year old singer-songwriter. Besides his solowork he also plays in the band "I’ll Pick You Up". With an intimate repertoire and his guitar play he stirs the public. He has done several big shows including Festival a/d Werf. With his band he played in Melkweg Amsterdam among others.

Everyone is welcome. Entrance is free. In particular other expats are welcome to come and share their experiences.

When: Tuesday, November 15. Time: 20:00 u (open 19.30u), till about 22.00u. Location: LAK Foyer, Cleveringaplaats 1, Leiden.

Hello everyone,

I am dutch journalist and I have lived in Italy for a few years so I know what it is like to settle down in a new country. Now I work for a dutch magazine and I write an article about the settling down process of expats and their partners/family. Who would like to answer some questions about this topic? I'll buy you a drink on a nice terrace in Leiden (I live in Leiden as well). Hope to speak to you soon! Linda, l.van.putten@intermediairpw.nl

Hello, what a great website!
I will soon be moving to Leiden with my boyfriend, in fact he is already there and I am desperately seeking for a cleaning lady who could come twice per month to a small apartment. I hope I will meet this fantastic community once I move there, currently living in Sweden.

Hope someone can help me with this request.

cheers,

Hi! we've visited this wonderful website as we are thinking of moving to Leiden cause Ivano has a very good job offer...I'm a GP in Italy and wondering if will be easy to find job there as I can't speak Dutch at all yet. I have a lot of doubts about this new life but reading these pages I feel less worried.

Pilgrim descendant
Just wanted to say THANK YOU to Leiden (especially the Pieterskerk!) for hosting the Pilgrim families that would eventually go on to found the Massachusetts Colony in North America. On this day, people in the United States celebrate Leiden's hospitality to their ancestors, among many other blessings. May Leiden and her joyful hutspot-cooking continue forever!
