I had such wonderful responses to my first e-mail upon arriving a few weeks ago, I thought I would ask some more questions of this friendly group.
1. I too am looking for a hairdresser in Leiden or Oegstgeest, any suggestions? My hair is usually worn fairly short and I do not need a colorist.
2. I would love to purchase a used sewing machine for small household projects, does anyone know where I might find one?
3. I am looking for a few older pieces of furniture, antiques, but not the real expensive kind. Does anyone know of a place near Leiden that has pieces like that or can recommend a good "flea market" or antique center.
Thank you so much for any information you can give.

Hi,
I moved to Oegstgeest last week with my family (son 5 and daughter 3) from England. Even though I am Dutch, my children don't speak any Dutch (my husband is American) and I would love for my children to meet similar-aged English-speaking kids at a playground/park/museum. If you've recently moved and your kids are also adjusting to a new country and new language, please let me know. x Michelle

My husband and I have just moved to a house in Oegstgeest from the U.S. I do not have any small children, only two grown daughters that stayed in the U.S. I realize that your sight is mostly geared to young mothers, but I was wondering if you had any advice as to how I might locate an expat group in my area, or if you knew of any other Americans near me. Thank you for your help. Your site was very interesting and I learned a lot.

Hi,
My friends are coming from America and would love a tour of Leiden, there are several tour operators, but can anybody recommend one over another? Also they are big wine enthusiasts can anyone recommend a restaurant that does a wine paring menu? Or a wine tasting in Leiden the last week in May?

dears,

As of May my family and I will be living in Ankara (Turkey) for the comming 1,5 years. Since we love Leiden and our house in the old city centre we are planning to rent our house for the interim period till jan 2014.
maybe someone knows a family/ couple who are looking for a carateristic place to live and might be interested to live in Leiden city centre, Pieterskerkgracht, in a historical building for the comming 1 - 1,5 year.
you can contact me via this site or 06 29 84 62 62

it is great to read this site. I can only hope that in Ankara i find similar initiatives if not, you are a great inspiration.

love, Shirley

Hi folks

Glad to find this useful website. Am fairly new in Leiden and love it. Right now, I have two enquiries - the urgent one is the dentist! I live in the centre - can anyone recommenda dentist? Also, I badly need a decent hairdressers for highlights; however, I have read other expats saying the Dutch are hopeless at colour - any suggestions? Thanks indeed. Will be back again for a more sociable entree .. Best, Maura.

I am coming to live in Leiden this summer, in August. I live in Delhi India at the moment and I am looking forward to being back in Europe even though it is less exotic. I'm glad I found your website for future questions. It looks really friendly!

Thet's great that you're helping others accomodate in your city, especially foreigners. If you move your whole life abroad far from friends and family you need some help and nice people to talk to

Expat Centre Leiden
Tuesday, the 15th of November 2011, Science Café Leiden and Expat Centre Leiden are organizing a special event about how the Netherlands is seen in the eyes of foreigners. Always wanted to know what foreigners think of us Dutchies? In this first international Science Café, we would like to address the impression we leave on expats in the Leiden region.

In the past I was also living and working in the Netherlands (1992-2000), totalising almost 15 years of immersion in the Dutch culture and society."

The evening will introduced and moderated by Prof. Jos van den Broek, science and communication Universiteit Leiden.

Hello everyone,

I am dutch journalist and I have lived in Italy for a few years so I know what it is like to settle down in a new country. Now I work for a dutch magazine and I write an article about the settling down process of expats and their partners/family. Who would like to answer some questions about this topic? I'll buy you a drink on a nice terrace in Leiden (I live in Leiden as well). Hope to speak to you soon! Linda, [email protected]
